About Us

The Vancouver Ancient Coin Club is an informal group that meets monthly to discuss topics related to ancient numismatics. New members are always welcome. There are no dues or other obligations: the only requirement is that you be interested in the ancient world.

Each meeting lasts about 2 to 2.5 hours. It begins with members sharing their recent acquisitions and collecting experiences. Current issues of the Celator as well as sale and auction catalogues are made available for review and discussion.

The last hour or so of the meeting is a short presentation or workshop hosted by a volunteer member. Recent topics have included:

"Innovations of Roman Coinage", "Why Coins are Important to Archaeologists", "Architectural Coins", "Musical Themes of Ancient Coins", and workshops on Forgeries, Patinas, Attribution and Detection of Tooling and Smoothing.
